I was impressed by how composer and players all demonstrated much more familiarity and skill with the new instruments. We’ve settled on using Push controllers with Live software and on iPads running Thumbjam, Bloom and Remiix apps giving an incredible amount of flexibility and variation.
Ulster music student Laura O’Neill joined us with her cello which added another dimension to the group. We explored a system of gestures to guide improvisations being developed by Denise White for her PhD – this was remarkably successful in producing a wide range of colours and moods. We also did more work on Niamh Kehoe’s new piece.
